Las Vegas is an amazing place to be during big events, and sportsbooks are great spots to watch prizefights and any old NFL game. When it comes to horse racing’s crucibles, the Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup, there are a host of options in Sin City, but not all are created equal.
Where should you watch the Run for the Roses and the big summer races at Saratoga, Del Mar, and Monmouth? Today, I’m giving you at least five furlongs of intel on the best spots to watch and bet on the ponies in Vegas.
The sports- and racebook area is modern and high class; the service is excellent; and the number of large TVs is stunning. For horse racing fans that don’t want to wait for a teller, there are kiosks just for those at the race book. It is smoke-free, but if you want to indulge, the smoke-friendly casino floor is less than a 30 second walk. Aria is not right on the strip, but the short trip is worth your while.
Haven’t you ever wanted to bet at your favorite sports bar? Lagasse’s Stadium at The Palazzo is the brainchild of chef to the stars Emeril Lagasse. Think of it as a luxury bar-cum-sportsbook. The food is amazing; the cocktails are grand; and they all get delivered to your seat. This was voted the 2016 Sports Bar of the Year at the Nightclub & Bar Awards. You won’t find more comfort and better extras at any other venue.
Like many books, the Westgate has recently been renovated, and what I really love is the high quality individual TVs. Sure, it’s great to have mega-tubes all around (which they do), but if you are concentrating on one race or one track, having it right in front of you is the way to go. The huge statue of Man O’ War shows that racing is a big part of the business here.
If you’re in the mood to be social, the bar is huge and lovely. Order a drink and sit in front of the mega-TVs while exchanging handicapping ideas with those who have cozied up.
This one is more about experience than betting. Everything is high end: they have a super-VIP area for groups (often bachelor parties) and there’s even a topless pool. They sometimes balk at large bets, though. On the whole, it’s a great place to see, and they have a large number of futures available, but I wouldn’t make it my regular haunt.
You know what you are getting at this book, consistently one of the top sports in Las Vegas. It is easy to navigate, there are a ton of TV’s, and people have been going here for generations. They respect horse players, but beware, the marquee TVs are probably going to be reserved for other sports. Well staffed and helpful, this is a very comfortable venue for a variety of reasons.
