A new boutique hotel-casino is rapidly growing west of Las Vegas Boulevard. Last week, the Lucky Dragon celebrated the completion of a nine-story, 206-room hotel tower and separate casino building. Both structures are slated to open next summer.
“It has an aggressive schedule,” project manager Paul Dutmer told VegasInc.com.
The Lucky Dragon is on the site of what was originally planned to be the second tower for Allure condos, but when that project fell through and the developer (Allure’s Andrew Fonfa) decided to go a different route, Las Vegas-based Penta Building Group snatched up the opportunity.
No stranger to the gaming world, Penta’s extensive list of projects includes the Golden Nugget tower expansion, Bellagio Villas’ private gaming salon, Porte Cochere at the Rio Hotel Casino, and the We Will Rock You Theatre at the Paris Hotel Casino.
According to the website of the Las Vegas Economic Impact Regional Center (of which Fonfa is the CEO), the Lucky Dragon Hotel and Casino will be the first to attempt to create an authentic Asian cultural and gaming experience.
Dining will include noodle bars and dim sum, while the Center has committed to providing a multicultural hospitality staff. Gaming will be heavily focused on Baccarat, Pai Gow, Fan Tan, and Sic Bo – including “several Feng Shui designed private gaming parlors.”
According to the company, the casino will attempt to cater to a niche market more than the general Vagas tourism industry – something that the building’s proximity to the Chinatown neighborhood will only help.
The 2.5-acre site, located on Sahara Avenue, is one of many to have sprung up in the long-vacant area this year. In addition to the Lucky Dragon, Genting Group began construction on Resorts World Las Vegas this May and Andrew Pascal, a former Wynn Resorts executive, is planning the Alon Las Vegas resort on the former New Frontier site.
