Nevada gaming saw an eight-percent climb in revenue for the month of February and Atlantic City casino revenue climbed a massive 14.7-percent from last February.
The eight casinos in Atlantic City raked in $204.7 million this February, with internet gambling seeing the biggest rise; online gambling brought in $14.7 million, up 42-percent compared with the same month in 2015. Six of the eight casinos posted monthly increases.
“It’s always positive to see casino revenues going up, and there were a lot of factors that combined to make February a good month,” Matt Levinson, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, told the Associated Press.
Slot winnings were up to $130.2 million and table games rose 23.2-percent to $59.7 million.
Last week, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported the state’s gaming win hit $989.8 million in February. For this fiscal year, win is up 1.5-percent to $7.48 billion statewide.
The lucky month was caused in part by the extra day on the calendar for Leap Year. But excitement for the Super Bowl also contributed as did a higher slot handle, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
Nevada even saw gains outside of the Las Vegas strip. Casinos in downtown Vegas saw a 17-percent increase, bringing in $51 million, and Reno revenue was up 6.9-percent.
While wins may be up, Nevada collected $51 million in tax money based on February winnings, down 12.9-percent from the February 2015.
Control board analyst Michael Lawton told the Las Vegas Sun that big events in March and April should continue to boost revenue.
For March, sportsbooks are expected to report high wins thanks to the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, J.P. Morgan gaming analyst Joseph Greff gave a report to investors that predicted a rise in Baccarat numbers in the months ahead.
