A lot of Vegas vacationers settle for meals at the casino buffets. Others turn it up a notch with a quality cut of meat. But did you know that Sin City offers some primo Italian fare, as well?
Where should you tread when you’re in the mood for great pasta (to soak up some of the adult beverages)? I’ve got four Italian joints that will turn any day into a bella notte.
Dine in or take out, Montesano’s is a short drive from the strip and offers casual and inexpensive Italian food. For more than 20 years, the Eastern Avenue eatery has been an authentic, New York-esque hole-in-the-wall. Great homemade bread, eggplant parm, cannoli of many varieties, pizza, pasta, and subs will raise the question: why spend $50 somewhere else when you can eat like a champ for $15?
Much more upscale than Montesano’s, Ferraro’s restaurant and wine bar has been a Vegas institution for over three decades. The staff at Ferraro’s (located across the street from the Hard Rock) are incredibly knowledgeable, and pair food and wine seamlessly. You can get an education on Italian wine with your dinner. As for the food, whether you prefer braised rabbit or gnocchi pomodoro, everything on the menu is fresh and tasty. They source their meat locally and use cuts with no hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.
The line for meatballs at the original New York establishment was so long, they decided to open a Vegas outpost. While it doesn’t have the century-old feel of the original, it does have the taste. Make a reservation for this Caesars Palace spot or be prepared to wait. Either way, it will be worth your time. Spaghetti alla bolognese is probably the way to go. You may never be able to eat another meatball.
It is one thing to have a cover band, but another for a musician to have a restaurant that features his favorite entrees. Sinatra was beloved by generations, and Frank loved his Italian food almost as much. Sinatra features Ol’ Blue Eyes’ favorite dishes, and the Wynn Encore has done a fine job making it feel like less of a themed restaurant, and more of a delicious ode. Of course, Frank was no teetotaler, so the wine list is top-notch.
