Everyone has their favorites when they visit Sin City: maybe you can’t imagine staying anywhere but MGM, or not visiting the Grand Canal Shoppes at least once. While there is nothing wrong with a little routine, Las Vegas is one of the most innovative cities in the world. Don’t deny yourself and check out these most recent (and still-to-come) openings in LV.
Twenty-seven locations show just how popular Fractured Prune donuts have gotten – mostly on the East Coast. Expanding out west in a big way, this innovated shop recently opened a location in Spring Valley. After 40 years dominating the Maryland market, this custom donut shop knows how to make customers happy. Custom creations include the French Toast (maple glaze and cinnamon sugar) and Coffee Cake (mocha glaze, graham crackers and powdered sugar), but if the fixed menu doesn’t fix your fancy – grab a pen and choose your own glaze and toppings. This fun meal won’t break the bank either, single doughnuts are $1.79 and a dozen is available for $14.99.

Since moving to Vegas from California, Chronic Tacos has been a success at the Palms since it opened four years ago. Hoping for a repeat, the fast casual concept just opened a second location in Spring Valley. Like Fractured Prune Doughnuts, customization is the name of the game at this joint where customers create their own burritos, tostada bowls, salads, tacos and quesadillas. It’s not just traditional Mexican favorites that will delight at this taco joint, but menu options like Chronic Fries (basically nachos without chips), Tortas (telera bread smothered in beans and your choice of protein), and churro bites. Decor at the expansion is very “Day of the Dead,” making for a fun dining experience.

All the way from the very trendy Miami, chef and partner Timon Balloo has brought his Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill to the Venetian in November – replacing V Bar. Gone is the nightlife scene, replaced by this more relaxed atmosphere that focuses more on good food than loud music. Small plates are the name of the game here, which uses an open fire grill and raw bar to prepare most meals. Brunch specials represent the best of Sugarcane – try oxtail steak benedict with sherry hollandaise or ricotta pancakes with seasonable marmalade and vanilla bean cream. Catch a glimpse of what exactly is going on from bar stools facing the raw bar and open kitchen, or relax in armchairs and leather couches while sipping on a signature cocktail. One-of-a-kind libations worth a try include the Strawberry Balsamic (Tito’s vodka, lime juice, maple syrup, balsamic, fresh strawberries) and Leche de Tigre (Kappa pisco, coconut milk, yuzu, simple syrup, fresh cilantro).

Cones and cups are so last year. Thai-inspired rolled ice cream hit Spring Valley a few weeks ago and we have no doubt will take off as the new craze. Rolled ice cream is made with cream poured onto a cool pan (as low as 32 degrees), fruits and flavored creams are added, and rolled into their signature shape. After Ice Pan closed (a similar concept at Harrah’s Las Vegas), it looked like rolled ice cream was out, but this Spring Valley locale is injecting new life with creations like the Potato Chip, Vanilla Straw Beary and Cookie Crazy.

Momofuku is a landmark in New York City and the restaurants have gained world-wide recognition for their innovative take on cuisine. Bringing its freaky desserts and bakery selections to The Cosmopolitan, Milk Bar is expected to open before the end of the year. Soft serve ice cream may not seems overly exciting, but Milk Bar’s opening flavors are anything but boring – Cereal Milk, Sweet Potato Pie, Crack Pie and Fruity Cereal Milk. The joint will also offer Milkquakes, which are reminiscent of the Dairy Queen Blizzard; truffles; chocolate malt layer cake; and Compost Cookies (pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, graham cracker, butterscotch and chocolate chips.).
