Temperatures reach well over 100 degrees daily during the summer in Las Vegas. Cooling down in a pool, sipping a cold beverage, or devouring a chilly treat is recommended. Thankfully, for children of all ages, there are several excellent options for ice cream in Sin City. Here are some of my favorite spots for a cone or cup.
In business for over 40 years, this just-off-the-strip establishment, not far from the Stratosphere, makes a serious argument that custard is superior to ice cream and frozen yogurt. They’re always serving up chocolate and vanilla, plus two creative “flavors of the day.” Luv-It is known for their sundaes and only takes cash. In a big corporate city, this is as authentic as you get.
If you’ve already heard of Serendipity 3, it’s likely because of its $1,000 “Golden Opulence Sundae,” which features top-shelf ingredients flown in from around the world. But even if that lavish concoction isn’t in your budget, this Caesars Palace joint is still a great spot for ice cream. The sundaes are huge and could really be a meal if, you know, they had vegetables and stuff in them. Thankfully they don’t, so maybe bring a friend to help you out if you don’t have the stomach of a Joey Chestnut. I recommend you try the frozen hot chocolate, which includes 20 varieties of the dark stuff.
Located near the Aria, BLVD is a classic ice cream shop with a twist. All the ice cream is made on site and they have great old fashioned milk shakes and soda floats with classic flavors, but there’s a creative side too. In addition to vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, they offer new-fangled flavors like avocado and oven-roasted tomato and bacon. They give new meaning to the name “ice cream sandwich.”
Lappert’s original location is just beyond the Golden Gate Bridge in California, and there is also a Hawaiian outpost. What do those two locations and the Las Vegas iteration have in common? Quality. Boasting an impressive lineup of tropical flavors along with more traditional options, this is truly decadent ice cream with ingredients that can’t be beat. Everything is gourmet quality, but if you like nuts, the macadamia is to die for.
It is very hard to get real Italian gelato outside of Europe, but this is a decent impersonation. The delightfully calm location – the marina right by Lake Las Vegas – adds to the experience. Coffee lovers absolutely must try the affogato, while anyone with an exploratory palate should sample the pumpkin.
