Not all children of the super-wealthy have it the same. You might think being Warren Buffett’s progeny would be a cushy gig, but the billionaire prefers to have his children actually earn their keep.
Other affluent parents give their children every perk and advantage imaginable, and it looks like Blue Ivy — daughter of Jay-Z and Beyonce — is heading for such a childhood.
Every aspiring rapper on the planet would kill for a ten-second verse on a Jay-Z album; that’s the kind of guest spot that can launch an unknown into the limelight. Five-year-old Blue Ivy got a whole lot more. She was given an entire bonus track, titled “Blue’s Freestyle/We Family,” on her dad’s new album, 4:44.
Although it’s tough to make out exactly what’s she’s saying at times, the internet is going crazy for the tyke. Some are dubbing her the new “queen of rap,” and calling the track provocative. And that’s probably the exact reaction Jay-Z and Beyonce were looking for.
Would the relative infant have landed a track on a Jay-Z album if she weren’t his daugther? Of course not. Does she nonetheless display some veritable musical chops? Yes! And that can’t come as much of a surprise given who her parents are. These things tend to get passed down.
What does the future hold for little Blue? Will she drop a few tracks on her own in the near future? Does she have the potential to outsell her mom or dad (considering how young she’s starting)? We set the youthful odds. But we’re not stopping there, because there is a flock of other celebrity goslings primed to take the mantle from their parents, and as we were told in first grade, we have to let everyone play.
Odds Blue Ivy will release a single by the end of 2017: 7/3
Odds Blue Ivy will release her own album by her tenth birthday: 1/2
Odds Blue Ivy will outsell both Beyonce and Jay-Z: 25/1
Odds Blue Ivy will win more Grammy’s than her parents: 40/1
Even though she’s getting started at an early age, outselling and out-Grammying her parents is going to be nigh impossible. Jay has 21 Grammys to his name. Bey has 22. In terms of album sales, Jay-Z was already at nearly 30 million back in 2012, and he was in second-place in the family.
Odds North West will release a single by end of 2017: 15/1
If there is one thing Kim and Kanye like, it’s being in the spotlight. How we’ve gone this long without North West rapping her little heart out for everyone to hear is beyond me. I guess the fact that she’s only 3.5 years old explains some of it. But now that Blue has hit the spotlight, and the internet fell in love, there’s a good chance Kanye will try to find a way to put his daughter’s name on the music map. That could come as soon as the end of the year.
Odds North West and Blue Ivy ever collaborate on a song: 1/3
I feel this is something Kanye has already run past Jay-Z. And there’s no doubt it would be a smashing success, because how cute would it be to hear two little voices dropping beats like nobodies business? Even if it doesn’t happen when they’re kids, they’ll have a lifetime to work together, and collaborations will still be all the rage in 2037.
Odds Willow and Jaden will have more career earnings than Will and Jada: 9/11
Ahh, the Smiths. Both Jaden and Willow tried their hand at music, but have now turned their focus more to fashion. Both are faces of major houses: Jaden at Louis Vuitton and Willow for Chanel, and all I can tell you is their contracts likely aren’t cheap. Both their parents are in the downswing of their careers, and didn’t have the running start their kids have, so it’s very possible the teens could have higher career earnings than their folks, especially with inflation!
Odds Prince George will join the military: 1/1
The busy life of a royal can make it hard to pursue other paths, but both Prince William and Prince Harry joined the military, continuing a long line of royals in the armed forces. Prince George has already proven to be mischievous, and you can bet he’ll be a handful later on in life. He won’t be content living the cushy life royals can. He’s third in line to the throne, and the royal family tends to keep the heirs to the thrown on the straight and narrow, so another military man is pretty likely.
Odds Prince George will become a recording artist: 99/1
I said he was mischievous, not rebellious.
Odds Kaia Gerber will walk more shows than her mom: 3/7
She may be only 15, but Kaia Gerber has already made a name for herself in the fashion world. I guess it helps that she’s the spitting image of her mom, Cindy Crawford.Gerber can’t yet walk runways because of her age, but already has a few campaigns under her belt. Her mom was a major supermodel, so the standards are high, but in this day and age, anything is possible. Plus, let’s not forget there are ten times the number of runways shows now than in the 90s.
Odds Suri Cruise will star in her first movie by age 15: 4/1
Not every celebrity offspring is destined to follow in their parents’ footsteps. After being one of the most famous celebrity children, Suri Cruise has ebbed from the spotlight. She’s now 11, lives with her mom, and leads a pretty low-key life. She rarely sees her dad, but in a recent interview, Tom said it’s possible his daughter will be hit by the acting bug, although she hasn’t shown an interest just yet.
