Las Vegas is all about the newest and greatest, and this year, Sin City won’t disappoint. From new hotels (hello, Lucky Dragon), to changes in celebrity residencies and new places to stuff your face, don’t waste your next trip to Vegas on things you’ve seen before. The following attractions are slated to open this year, so keep an eye out for the chance to be the first to try the hottest new thing.
While many may be sad to say goodbye to Britney Spears’ long-standing residency, this March, fans of early 2000s pop will welcome another icon. Backstreet will be officially back on the Planet Hollywood stage this spring when their Larger Than Life show starts on the first of the month. The band will play 18 shows from March 1st to July 1st with all five original members.
The band, famous for hits like I Want It That Way and As Long as You Love Me, will join a long list of artists who have capitalized on nostalgia in Sin City. Gone are the days of Frank Sinatra and Wayne Newton; bigs shows with millennial audiences are the new hot tickets on the strip. Tickets and VIP packages are on sale now.
The Hardrock Hotel is ready to welcome some of the sexiest men alive to their stage this spring. Produced by the original Magic Mike (Channing Tatum), comes this live show based on the blockbuster hit and described as “a sizzling 360-degree dance and acrobatic strip tease spectacular guaranteed to bring on the heat”. The show will re-create the fictional cabaret nightclub Club Domina from the films and attempt to find the magnetism the big screen provided. Tatum is co-directing with film franchise choreographer Alison Faulk, and who knows more about making an authentic Magic Mike experience than those two? The show starts March 30th, and you must be at least 18 years old to attend.
Betting it all at the craps table, or even trying to cross the street on Las Vegas Boulevard may give you a thrill, but the soon-to-open XPark hopes to get your heart racing in a different way. From extreme sports to free-falling thrill rides, XPark is set to open this summer and wants to put your heart in your stomach as you try things you’ve never imagined. Attractions will include the XBoat, discribed only as an “ultimate aqua thrill ride”, zip lining, bungie jumping, and a massive swing over some of Nevada’s prettiest sites. Trips will be available for booking soon, according to the website.
He’s known for turning around other people’s failing restaurants and giving owners a second chance on his show Restaurant: Impossible, but Food Network star Robert Irvine is ready to take a stab at his own eatery. Set to open sometimes in July, Irvine’s restaurant is nameless so far, and will be located in Tropicana Las Vegas.
In the summer of 2016, the celebrity chef rappelled down 22 stories of the Tropicana to announce his new venture. Irvine says he is aiming to “break the barrier into the food and dining scene” in Las Vegas and, if his fellow Food Network star’s restaurants are any indication, it probably won’t do half bad.
