Halloween will come and Halloween will go. But putting away your glitter-covered and blood-stained costumes doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Las Vegas (which could probably battle New York for the title of “the city that never sleeps”) will make sure you are never bored with a series of top-notch events throughout the month of November.
From cowboys to comic nerds, join tourists and locals alike at whatever event floats your boat before gearing up for the holiday season.
Most people don’t think of Las Vegas when they think of ten-gallon hats and cowboy boots, but the the largest bull riding event in the world makes Las Vegas Arena its home every year. Join 70,000 annual attendees to watch the world’s best riders hit the eight-second mark and compete to claim the ultimate rodeo title.
All-star musicians like Steven Tyler, Rick Springfield, Dustin Lynch, and more will provide the perfect down-home soundtrack at a series of concerts throughout the weekend. This year’s events will include the PBR “Fan Zone,” a kick-off party at the Fremont Street Experience, rider meet-and-greets, and event after parties.
Tickets are available from $36 to $5,000 for five-day “Elite Seats.”
This is your chance to finally see the bulging muscles and stellar abs of the fitness stars you follow on Instagram in real life. The National Physique Committee (NPC) will match up some of the nation’s best bodybuilders to compete in various divisions that show off stellar bodies and a lifetime of hard work. The NPC has been bringing top athletes together since 1982 and their list of winners includes 24 Olympians.
Fans include major professional athletes and celebrities like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Categories include bodybuilding, fitness, figure, bikini, and physique. There probably won’t be munchies like stadium nachos available, but maybe you can have a protein bar and think about how you’re going to start hitting the gym … tomorrow.
Tickets to the finals (at the Cashman Center Theater) are $40.
It’s a far cry from the big conventions that hit San Diego and Dallas every year, but the Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival is an intimate way for legit comic-book junkies to get their kicks. The one-day event at the Clark County Library is 100-percent free and features publishers, vendors, film screenings, panels, special guests, and more.
This year, the popular Artist Alley will expand, and panels will include guests like J.H. Williams III (Promethea, The Sandman Overture, Batwoman), Scott Koblish (Deadpool, X-Men), and Amy Chu (Poison Ivy, Girls Night Out: Tales of New York). Meet-and-greets will be open after the presentations and The Velveteen Band will provide live music. Despite its home and small-town feel, over 3,500 guests attended last year’s event, so be sure to come early.
The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Cigar Aficionado travels the nation hosting events for cigar lovers, allowing fans to come together and celebrate the pleasures of their favorite vice. This year will be the 21st annual Big Smoke Las Vegas Weekend at the Mirage – an expanded event format consisting of two Big Smoke evenings and daytime seminars. Saturday’s program will include a sit-down lunch and moderated discussion by the executive editor of Cigar Aficionado. Sunday’s three seminars are a cigar lovers’ breakfast, a “roll your own” event,” and cigar-pairing training with single-malt scotches.
Big Smoke events allow attendees to smoke premium cigars, savor premium spirits, and taste great food from local restaurants with some of the biggest names in the industry.
Tickets are $625 for the entire weekend and $325 for just the evening events. The price of your ticket includes a cigar from each of the 25 premium cigar producers exhibiting at the event, including H. Upmann Yargüera, Don Pepin, and Quesada.
The food truck craze is just like any other in the culinary industry – fully embraced in Las Vegas. Not only do locals flock to trucks they see around the city, even the government is getting involved at the Sunset Park’d Food Truck event hosted by the Clark County Parks and Recreation department.
Over 30 food trucks, plus music and family-friendly activities, await you at Sunset Park. This year, some vendors agreed to participate in a “tasting dish” offering: bite-sized samples of three of the truck’s dishes for $6 or less. The full food truck list hasn’t been released, but some of the most popular in Las Vegas are Bacon Boys, The Cookie Bar (serving alcohol-infused baked goods), and Stripcheeze, which serves American classics with an Asian flare (think mac and cheese egg rolls with kimchi sauce).
This year, the festival is teaming up with the Brew’s Best Beer Festival benefiting New Vista, an organization that provides opportunities and support to the intellectually impaired.
The Food Truck Festival is free, and tickets to Brew’s Best can be purchased for $30-$45.
No matter your athletic ability, there is a place for you at the nationwide Turkey Trot that encourages you to get out of the house and earn that pile of mashed potatoes you’re sure to be eating in a few hours. Hundred of thousands of racers in major cities all over country wear turkey hats, costumes, and shirts to this light-hearted event.
At the Las Vegas race, runners are treated to gorgeous views as they trot along the Historic Railroad Trail at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area – less than 20 miles from the Strip. A half marathon, 12K, 5K, and one mile start at staggered times throughout the morning.
Sign up for the distance of your choice here and join more than 1,000 participants on Thanksgiving morning for this trip through the Six Tunnels to the Hoover Dam.
