There is a lot of talk about the fine restaurants and experiential dining that gamblers get to taste test while on a Sin City bender, but gamers everywhere have gotta eat. If you are an East-Coast player with a grumbling stomach, these Atlantic City eateries are worth checking out. We can’t promise the same wow-factor that some of the craziest Las Vegas chefs provide, but sometimes all you need is a juicy steak or flaming dessert to give you fuel for a late night at the Blackjack table.
For over 100 years, Dock’s has been delivering an “elegant” dining experience with “outstanding” meals (Tripadvisor) to Atlantic City seafood lovers. Over the years, the intimate restaurant has expanded to include a liquor license, large dining room, cocktail lounge and raw bar that has become a local hot spot.
Current projects are adding on a three-story addition and expanded piano bar – a testament to the popularity of this spot, that has still maintained a classic oyster bar feel with upscale dining and maritime touches. The menu is what you’d expect from an upscale steak and seafood restaurant, but frequent visitors claim it as the best in the area. Noteworthy entrees include Dock’s Seafood Fry (which has been on the menu since 1897), lobster selections up to seven pounds and clams casino (top neck clams, broiled with butter, red and green pepper, lemon and bacon).

Atlantic City is far from Southern, but this unique brunch and dinner spot has brought jazz bands and singers to a meal full of soul food and fried goodness. Kelsey & Kim’s Southern Cafe is a family-owned operation (the namesake pair and owners have been married for over 20 years), and this family has plenty of experience. Kelsey and Kimberly Jackson own and operate three local restaurants but the southern cafe is by far their most praised.
In reviews, servers are described as attentive and meals as excellent, with entrees like Shrimp E’touffee, Slow Smoked Ribs and Southern Fried Chicken & Waffle sure to satisfy. You can never go wrong with a jazz brunch, either, and every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. you can treat yourself to a made-to-order pancake station, omelet station, assorted breakfast meats, french toast, shrimp & grits, and so much more.

If you are in the mood for a white-tablecloth and formal-dress meal, look no further than Capriccio – an elegant Italian eatery at the Resorts Casino Hotel. Visitor Linda M. (Tripadvisor) hails it as “best brunch ever” with a menu that features gourmet Italian cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere. Enjoy, antipasto, seafood, veal, wines and dessert while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Multiple dining options will allow you to capitalize on the dishes offered: a brunch overlooking the Boardwalk is available for $47.99 on Sundays, a Sunday Gravy Special offes a three course meal for $30 per person, and a new small bites at the bar menu will perfectly compliment your cocktails.
Just dropping in for dinner is perfectly fine as well – you’ll be able to create your own antipasta, enjoy seafood zuppetta (lobster, scallops, shrimp, crab meat simmered in olive oil, red onion, capers, garlic, red crushed pepper over linguini), and sample individual souffles. Reservations are recommended and don’t forget to don your heels and sport coats if you want to blend in with the high-end atmosphere.

For a more intimate Italian feel, stop by the Esposito family’s reservation-only restaurant that has been open since 1921. This cash-only, BYOB establishment is in high demand – it’s hard to get a reservation without a referral and you need to come prepared for long waits and close quarters (it is in a private home, afterall). All of these quirks are beyond worth it, however, considering crabcakes are the size of softballs, massive helpings of traditional pasta will serve as dinner for three days and it’s impossible to resist the house-made desserts like ricotta cheesecake. Ask your hotel concierge if they can get you in and, if you’re one of the lucky ones, don’t be late!

Old eateries with loyal fanbases seem to be the theme of Atlantic City, and the Knife and Fork Inn is no exception. This 100-year-old French-style joint has evolved from a private club into a steak and seafood restaurant owned by the same group behind Dock’s Oyster House. This historic place thrived during prohibition and has since maintained its favor in the eyes of local politicians, wealthy vacationers, and Hollywood celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Vic Damone.
The owner of Dock’s took over in 2005 and, after an extensive renovation, Knife and Fork now splits its menu between steaks and chops, seafood and shellfish (the Lobster Thermidor is a delicious delicacy), and vegetarian salads and side dishes like Beer Battered String Beans and French Fried Beet Chips.
