Whether your travels to Las Vegas are a last-minute thing or something planned far in advance, you’ll need to remember a few items to make the most of it.
First, you’ll need a balling wad of cash. Second, you’ll need a balling wad of clothes. (Be sure to un-wad prior to hitting the town.) Third, you’ll need an auxiliary wad of cash for when you blow the first one betting on double-zero at the roulette wheel. Lastly, you’ll need all the best apps on your mobile device to help you navigate Sin City’s lusty wilderness.
Since the inevitable rise of the machines is already at hand, why not give in now and use these handy apps to help you relax, gamble, find a golf course, or pinpoint the best place to get sloppy drunk and fall over?
Below is a list of apps that you should download for your Vegas adventure, along with the odds that they’ll be the top app in Vegas this summer.
Which app do you see yourself using the most?
Odds to be the top Vegas app in summer 2016:
Since we know you’re not going to crack open the Bible in your hotel room drawer, use this cool app to help you make good decisions in a city made famous by bad ones. It can give you an instant answer to the age-old Las Vegas question: “What next?”
Want to know where to shoot off some guns or shop for expensive clothes? Want to find something cool off the beaten path? Want to know how the hell to get out of this godforsaken town and fast?! This app has you covered on all fronts. It’s your very own personal Vegas insider that serves up the best deals on travel packages, shows, tours, attractions, dining, and nightlife. Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
This will be one of the top apps because it tells you where the best parties are at. (And even if you can’t get in, don’t you want to know what you can’t get in to?)
Do you want to chill? Do you want to dance your face off? Maybe you need to get to the Furry Convention after party? The Vegas Party Stops app will be your personal party tour guide. There are some really nice details to this application like a “must do”, “things to do”, and “people to do” sections, plus recommended cocktails and top secret classified information. Each party stop is rated from 1 to 5 cocktail glasses; but after the app led me to a few hot spots – and informed me of the drink specials – it started ranking them out of ten somehow.
Maybe I was seeing double, maybe not; just remember, the more cocktail glasses, the better the party.
Food, food, and more glorious food. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, so indulge when you’re in town. There is almost too much selection in Vegas, so use Zomato as your one-stop-shop to explore all the dining options in the city. You can browse through menus, see pictures, and read user reviews. It also comes in handy for finding late-night pizza or your morning shot of matcha.
This cross-platform messaging service allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. There is no cost to this app and it makes it easy to communicate with family and friends who have split from the herd and are making bad decisions all by their lonesome. Why should they get to have all the fun? Track them down and join the shenanigans!
Not every city or country has this magical app, *cough cough* Canada! But Vegas does! If you want an alternative to the taxi cab, then give Uber a try. It’s a reliable way to get around town. Sign up, choose how you want to pay, and then pick your next sinful destination. Trust me, Uber drivers in Vegas become your best friends. You’ll exchange memories that will last for a night time.
Apple’s Find my iPhone app has helped locate missing phones in bathroom stalls all over the city. Now sloppy-drunk Android users can do the same! Download this app and you’ll be able to find the exact location of your lost or stolen phone. Just remember to download it before you lose your device. In my experience, robbers won’t do it for you … even if you ask them really nicely from your mom’s phone. That’s download first, lose second.
We know you’re not heading to Vegas thinking, “Gosh, I can’t wait to catch up on my reading.” But all that partying takes its toll and you’ll need some downtime. Kindle is still one of the most popular reading apps on the market, so it’s a no brainer. With over a million books to enjoy, and a nice selection of magazines, Kindle will keep you entertained while you rekindle your party juices.
But FYI, you need to get yourself an Amazon account so that all your eBook purchases can be accessed and opened. It’s in a book, take a look, reading rainbow!
This is a must have app in order to continue the “I’m a fantastic golfer” charade. It provides you with wind speed, elevation, and club recommendations. It’s pretty much your very own pocket caddy. Now they just need to create a robot to carry your bags and fetch your beer. Or a human who will do it for free. (Wait, is that why people have kids?)
Alright, you’ve seen the movie Rounders, you have experience playing at your buddy’s poker night, and you think you know when to hold’em and when to fold’em. This app uses your phone’s GPS to find the best poker games in your area so you can donate your hard-earned money to some guy named “the Greek.” Now go kiss your loved ones goodbye. You have a fortune to bring home.
You’re the lead in your own movie, and you know that everyone wants you to broadcast your life live and to the masses! #Superstar. Periscope is a great way to live-broadcast the highlights of your trip to the world through your mobile device. Once a broadcast is over, others can watch a replay, and even provide feedback for up to 24 hours. That is 24 hours of vanity that you don’t want to miss out on. After that, the broadcast is removed from the app and you’ll just have to keep giving your fans sequels.
There are all kinds of dating apps on the net, but Happn is a unique and somewhat creepy way to meet people that you’ve anonymously crossed paths with. If you are getting bored with Tinder, Grindr, or eHarmony, why not go full stalker mode and try Happn. Okay that’s probably not the best pitch, but this app is kind of fun, and it does provide a great service for spying on … er “breaking the ice” with … strangers. Besides who doesn’t like a little hunting trip?
Everyone on social media loves your photos and why not? You are practically a professional photographer. Now you can make your photos look pretty and completely skip the annoying import process. This has a very simple interface and is extremely easy to use. It gives you far more “pro” level tools than a lot of other photo editing apps. Best of all, you can create your own filters that can be linked to your super-awesome Instagram account that the world totally needs. By all means, take selfies and document your poor choices for your family and friends. At least you’ll look good doing it with that wad of clothing you packed.
