The 2015 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOP) made history a few months ago when it announced the largest online buy-in event ever: the $51,000 Super High Roller. Forty-six entries generated a prize pool of $2.3 million.
Last Monday, Ben “Ben86” Tollerene took home the title along with a sizeable $616,518.34 payout.
Tollerene bested Jose “Cejakas14” Angel Latorre and Nikita “fish2013” Bodyakovskiy, who came in second and third, respectively. He now has over $2 million in online tournament winnings.
He was also able to outlast pre-tournament favorites Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, and Chris Moorman, who entered the lucrative contest with 12/1 odds according to the PokerStars website.
On the final hand, Tollarene was dealt 87 while Latorre had pocket nines (99). The flop came 1097 and Latorre raised to 42,000 with his set (after a 13,500 pre-flop raise). Tollarene called with the draw and hit a J on the turn to complete the straight. After the river brought a 6, Tollarene went all-in. Latorre called with his set.
Fifth-place finisher Mike “Tîmex” McDonald entered the second day as the chip leader, but was ultimately bested by “Nopaleva” from Russia.
