The 2015 Asia Championship of Poker HK$500,000 Super High Roller was no light-hearted tournament. It took four levels to wrap up the final table and, in the end, Andy Andrejevic continued his breakout year, taking home HK$8,725,000 (roughly US$1,125,000) with the title.
The final table of six players was whittled in half in the first three hours of play. The shortest stack was also the first one to bust when Anton Astapau’s ace-ten took out Erik Seidel’s ace-seven.
Astapau didn’t last long, however, getting kicked to the curb by Andrejevic just 15 minutes later, despite flopping a set. Astapau’s fifth-place finish grossed him HKD$1,939,000 (roughly US$250,000).
Reigning champion Steven O’Dwyer didn’t have much luck at the final table; he started day two second in chips but was also ousted by Andrejevic when the eventual-winner ran an ace-ten against O’Dwyer’s king-queen. The final three battled for more than two hours before getting down to heads-up play.
Third-place finisher Bryn Kenney, whose took home HKD$3,635,000 (US$468,972), doubled up with an ace-eight to Andrejevic’s queen-jack. But the very next hand, Kenney’s last, showed an ace-king for Andrejevic, which easily dominated Kenney’s king-jack.
It was just four hands later that Andrejevic claimed his victory.
Season 11 of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour will start in January at the City of Dreams for the Macau Millions.
