The Royal Dublin Society hosted three days of play for the 2016 PokerStars European Poker Tour €10,300 High Roller. Only 13 of the original 185 players survived to the final day. The top-27 finishers were in the money, but it was Samuel Panzica who took home first-place and the top prize of €375,770.
At the end of day two, Sergey Lebedev (who placed 10th in the €10,200 Single-Day High Roller a few days before) was in the lead. Peruvian Diego Ventura had the shortest stack and was the first to go when his pocket queens were cracked by Lebedev.
Other players that didn’t make it to the final table of eight included European Poker Tour regular Sam Chartier (who busted in 12th with pocket tens), Christoph Vogelsang (who hit the rail in 11th when his pair of fives fell to a pair of sixes), and Jerry Odeen (who fell in tenth to pocket kings). Rocco Palumbo was the final elimination before the final table was set.
Ryan Riess, the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event champion, placed sixth when his pocket sevens ran into David Kitai’s pocket eights. After the knockout, Kitai was the next to go when he shoved with an A, 7. Akin Tuna (who was also responsible for the eliminations of Chartier, Vogelsang, and Odeen) called with an A, 6 and got lucky by hitting a straight on the river.
Emil Patel, an American now based in Finland, went out in fourth-place when a showdown against Panzica ended in a pair of eights for the eventual winner. In the last three, Lebedev was the shortest stack and he was eventually the first of the trio to go when Panzica called an all-in shove with pocket nines in the small blind.
The final two players, Panzica and Tuna, then agreed to a deal that gave Panzica €310,000 and Tuna €290,000. After initially grabbing the lead, Tuna fell behind and Panzica struck. On the final hand, the board showed three kings after the turn. A ten appeared on the river, giving Tuna (J, 10) a full house. When Panzica shoved, Tuna called with his boat. But Panzica flipped the remaining king and his quads ended the affair.
