Raminder Singh now has a reason to buy a jewelry box. The amateur Floridian poker player snagged his first World Series of Poker ring earlier this week, along with a nice $168,995 payday at the WSOP Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club $1,675 Main Event.
The event drew a huge crowd of 524 and paid the top 54 finishers, including Phil Hui and Jerry Wong, who failed to make the final table of nine. Tripp Kirk’s elimination by Peter Vitantonio narrowed the field to the final table, but the 2015 WSOPC Palm Beach Kennel Club champ wasn’t long for the tournament and busted in ninth place to Steven Stout.
Singh moved into the chip lead pretty early on when he scored a few big pots off the stack of Sam Panzica. With his new-found confidence, he scored a pair of eliminations – the first with an A♡-Q♡ that turned into a flush against Daniel Letts’ pair of jacks. Eric Bunch went up against the eventual winner next, but his A♢-K♤ wasn’t enough to prevail and he went home in seventh place for a cool $25K. David Berman went home next in sixth place.
Panzica, a four-time ring winner who started the final day first in chips, put the last of his stack in against William Kopp but couldn’t improve and the field was narrowed to four. Despite the elimination, Kopp was no match for Singh, even after he managed to double up with an A♢-K♢ on the eventual winner. Singh flopped a set from a pocket A-Q and Kopp, an Ohio native, was watched his K-Q fall, going home in fourth place.
Jesus Cabrera didn’t ruffle any feathers and managed to hang on at the final table until he put his A-Q against the kings of Singh. Third place paid a little over $75K and the elimination put Singh back in the lead, one he wouldn’t relinquish.
In the last hand, Singh called Stout’s all-in with a J♢-10♡. Things looked okay for Stout’s K♤-6♡, but a 10 on the flop and the turn gave Singh the trips that locked up his first WSOP win.
“I just started getting good hands at the right time,” Singh said after the win. “It was a good run. Feels terrific.”
