Thanks to personally eliminating every other player at the six-handed final table, Ben Tollerene more than doubled his earnings for the year at the PokerStars Championship Panama Super High Roller. He’d already cashed for over $400,000 in 2017, but Tollerene made that look like pocket change when he won first place and a whopping $538,715 earlier this week.
The High Roller event was record breaking for Panama, and it marked the biggest buy-in ($50,000), the biggest prize pool ($1,584,495), and the biggest top prize ever in the country.
When the final table started, short-stack Timothy Adams managed to double up but couldn’t make it stick and was eliminated in sixth place when his A-Q entered a losing battle against Tollerene’s pair of kings. Orpen Kisacikoglu of Turkey was the next to go when Tollerene pushed with a Q-9. Kisacikoglu called with an A-2 but the board showed a nine that rendered his ace useless.
Before Kisacikoglu’s elimination, Tollerene had just won a massive pot that crippled Steve O’Dwyer. The Irishman was unable to recover and was sent to the rail with $182,220 when Tollerene’s K-6 found a pair.
A few minutes later Justin Bonomo was ousted in third. He got in with a K-J to Tollerene’s J-6, but a six on the river sent the American home. Going into heads-up play, Tollerene held a 10-1 chip lead over Canadian Daniel Dvoress. The Canuck put up a good fight for about an hour but couldn’t avoid the inevitable. His tournament ended when he called Tollerene’s (K-5) all in with an A-9, and the former found a king on the river.
“Yeah, I can’t really imagine a smoother final table than that,” Tollerene told PokerNews. “I think I lost one all in against [Dvoress] for like 10 blinds and won every other one. I can’t remember actually even losing a significant pot, which is pretty rare.”
