For the second time in his long, storied poker career, Daniel Negreanu (aka “Kid Poker”) just missed qualifying for the final table at the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Negreanu was ousted from the tourney in 11th place (the final table seats nine) after his pocket rockets were cracked by a straight.
Who had the honor bouncing the not-so-kiddish Negreanu from the tourney? Fellow pro Joe McKeehan, who will start the final table with almost a third of the chips in play.
But don’t feel too sorry for Daniel – who was knocked out in 11th place back in 2001, as well. He earned a cool $527,000 for his 11th-place finish, which brings his live-tournament career winnings up over $29M. (Actually, go ahead and feel sorry for him because his prize money would have nearly doubled to $1,001,020 if he’d reached the final nine.)
Negreanu had been down to about 50 big blinds earlier in the tournament, but managed to bust fellow legend Phil Hellmuth’s queens with AK to solidify his position with just over 400 players left.
He’ll have to wait until next year, though, to take another run at the most coveted bracelet in the poker world.
