Christoph Vogelsang shot to no. 2 on the Germany all-time money list last week after an impressive victory saw him score a $6 million payday in his first-ever live win. Vogelsang has previously managed to amass over $7 million in live cashes with top-five finishes across the world , but his first top-place win almost doubled his career winnings and the German is now sitting pretty with almost $14 million to his name.
The $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl at ARIA lasted five days, and the fourth began with eight contenders battling it out to be part of the final seven. At the start of the day, American Jake Schindler was in the lead, and he quickly increased his position after a three-way pot with Vogelsand and Buddiga gave him half the chips in play.
Soon after, Jason Koon busted on a set to Schindler, setting the final seven and bursting the money bubble. Schindler still held a commanding lead going into the final seven, and Justin Bonomo flopped a set of twos against Vogelsang. The American eventually fell to a straight, and was the first player to score any cash, taking home $600,000.
Buddiga wasn’t able to recover after his nasty run in with Schindler, and went bust in sixth for an even $1 million. Byron Kaverman turned both straight and flush draws in a hand against Schindler, but the latter’s pair of aces pulled through and sent Kaverman home in fifth.
Leon Tsoukernik was the last to bust on the day, butting heads with Vogelsang’s pocket aces. The Czech’s A,10 wasn’t enough to pull through and he won $1,800,000 for setting the final three.
The remaining players showed up on day five with Germany’s Stefan Schillhabel way behind his two competitors. It didn’t take long for him to get into a tough position against Vogelsang with an A,J against pocket queens. Despite a flop that paired Schillhabel’s jack, it wasn’t enough to get him into the final two and he took $2.4 million for third.
When heads-up play began, Schindler had twice as many chips as his opponent and managed to increase it to 3-1 before Vogelsang got in the game . The final hand came when Schindler bluffed on a shove, but was taken down by Vogelsang’s two pair and a winner was crowned.
