Swansea City (+640) vs. Arsenal (-200), Draw (+380)
Arsenal (12-5-3, 41 points) travels to Wales this Saturday, January 14th, to take on relegation-threat Swansea City (4-2-13, 15 points) for the 21st round of the English Premier League.
Arsenal are coming off a miraculous comeback, where they chased a 3-0 deficit and closed the gap by scoring three goals in 20 minutes, equalizing in extra time. It was an exhilarating game and a true testament to Arsenal’s ability to come back when trailing.
But at the end of the day, Arsenal left with one point against ninth-place Bournemouth, facing yet another round in which they dropped points against an inferior team. The result pushed them down to fifth, below Manchester City.
Their star midfielder Mesut Ozil has been lackluster recently, barely having an impact in the last few games, and their defending has also been atrocious at times. Olivier Giroud has been in form in the last few games but he’s not exactly a player the Gunners can count on.
The only one who has proved reliable for Arsenal is striker Alexis Sanchez, who has scored 13 goals so far this season. He sits behind only Diego Costa of Chelsea in the Premier League goal tally.
Their title hopes are still alive but it’s not looking as good as it did earlier in the season. The club has seen its fans turn against them, calling for the resignation of their longtime manager Arsene Wenger. There’s a feeling that something needs to change within the Arsenal side in order for them to really have a shot.
But regardless of Arsenal’s worries, it doesn’t even come close to Swansea’s. The lowly Welsh side have only four wins this season and have conceded more goals than any other team. They are currently battling relegation along with Hull and Sunderland, and a win would most likely see them clear the relegation zone.
It doesn’t seem likely, though. Swansea doesn’t have the strength up front to really take advantage of Arsenal’s defensive vulnerabilities and it’s more likely their own defensive weaknesses will be exploited by the Arsenal attack.
Pick: Arsenal (-200)
