The Cleveland Browns are desperately trying to establish themselves as anything other than a complete joke of an organization this offseason, but their past keeps coming back to bite them. Despite severing ties with Johnny Manziel, the troubled quarterback continues to surface in stories involving a Browns player currently under contract, at least for now.
Suspended receiver Josh Gordon was caught up in rumors that he was rooming with Money Manziel, which is ridiculous enough given that Gordon recently failed another drug test and needs to stay clean until August 1 to get reinstated by the league.
But before E! goes out and buys the rights to House of Browns, the real story sounds like it’s much worse. TMZ is reporting that Manziel was the passenger in a hit and run, and Gordon was the one who came and picked up the former QB and his partner.
It’s a disturbing revelation that Gordon is still willing to “hang around with the wrong crowd” (to quote a television mother) with his NFL future hanging in the balance. Perhaps what’s even sadder, though, is that Browns VP Saschi Brown said the team never counted on Gordon being back this season. Really? So a wide receiver corps of Andrew Hawkins and Brian Hartline was the plan all along?
It’s not like getting Gordon back will all of a sudden make Cleveland a legitimate threat, but at least it would give those poor Brown fans at least one exciting player to watch this year. So what are the chances Gordon can get his act together and return to the NFL this fall? Let’s take a look.
Odds Josh Gordon passes August drug test: 7/4
Odds Josh Gordon gets approved for reinstatement in August: 3/1
Odds Josh Gordon leads Browns in receiving in 2016: 7/1
Odds Josh Gordon and Johnny Manziel move in together: 45/1
Odds the Gordon/Manziel house becomes the subject of a reality show: 46/1
